The Ficus or Australian Fig Tree (Ficus Macrophylla),….

….has different types of roots: the aerial areas that hang from the branches, the tabular ones that grow from the trunk and the superficial ones that extend over the ground. This type of tree scatters its seeds by means of birds, which drop them in the treetops, where they germinate with less competition for light than on land. When it grows, it begins with the aerial roots until they reach the ground. Over time, it wraps around the host tree and can cause death. This is why they are also called “strangler” trees.
